Give

The Hot Springs County Museum is primarily funded by the County; however, the funding is not enough to support any full time staff. Therefore, the museum is heavily reliant on Volunteer Help and Financial Donations. Though we are a County entity, we are operated under a board appointed by the County Commissioners, and 100% of the donations stay in the museum, and do not become part of the general funds of the County.

Some of the ways donated funds are used include purchasing archival materials to protect the historic integrity of historic items; purchasing supplies for the construction & maintenance of exhibits; advertising and purchasing landscaping supplies.

Financial Donations

Financial donation can be made through PAYPAL, or mailed directly to the museum at:

Hot Springs County Museum
700 Broadway St.
Thermopolis, WY 82443

[Write ‘Donation’ in the memo section of checks]

The museum can also accept donations through Memorials, Personal Wills or Life Insurance policies.

Donating Items

Most of the items in the museum’s collection were donated by the public. If you have something you think is worth housing in the museum, please let us know!

The museum only accepts photographs, archives, library items or objects that relate to the History of Hot Springs County, Wyoming.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you enjoy history and people, the Hot Springs County Museum offers volunteer experiences that incorporate both!

Below are examples of Volunteer Positions that you may apply for. If you have a skill that you feel would be applicable in this museum, and you do not see a position listed for it, we would love to hear what you have to offer! If you would like to speak with museum staff concerning more details any of the positions, please give us a shout!

• Researcher
Museum staff and volunteers participate in a wide variety of research projects. Examples include: Researching historic artifacts/photos; performing genealogical research, and respond to research requests by the public that could include any aspect of Hot Springs County history.

• Patron Greeter
If you like working with the public, this is a fun position. The volunteer greets visitors upon their arrival in the museum, provides a brief introduction to the museum and general history of the county; answers patron’s questions; answers the telephone and sells gift shop items from the museum gift shop.

• Collections Assistant
When the museum accepts collections, they need to be processed. The person or persons in this position will help with the entire process which includes identifying historic items, photographing and documenting the items in the museum database and properly archiving and storing the collections.

• General Maintenance
Major repairs are generally taken care of by county maintenance staff or contractors; however, there are many small projects where someone with generalized maintenance skills could undertake. A few examples include: Repairing signs, painting, constructing displays, mower or other tool repairs.

• Landscaper/Groundskeeper
This is primarily a spring, summer and fall season position. Across the street from the main museum is an annex containing a one-room schoolhouse; caboose, poverty shack and two self-guided buildings containing agriculture and petroleum exhibits. These grounds contain planted flowers and fruit trees. The person in this position would assist with maintaining the flowers, watering the grounds, and mowing grass.

• Custodian
The museum employs one 15 hour/week employee to take care of a 16,000 sq. ft. museum building, and several outbuildings across the street. Volunteers are needed to assist with general custodial chores (i.e. sweeping, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, cleaning exhibits, etc.)
